A DOCUSERIES ABOUT OBSESSION, SURVIVAL, AND THE POWER OF NATURE.

Professional journalists Mick Kalber and Bruce Omori have formed an unbreakable bond, built upon years of filming and photographing epic eruptions on the world’s most active volcano. But suddenly things take a wild and dangerous twist when Hawaiʻi's Kīlauea Volcano abruptly changes course, erupting in Mick’s backyard, threatening his home, and the Big Island.

Backstory

Producer/Director Tim Coakley was embedded with Mick and Bruce, and the surrounding communities for months throughout the historic 2018 Leilani Estates eruption, capturing both the spectacle and the emotional toll of the disaster.

The resulting imagery is visually stunning, emotionally raw, and often shockingly dangerous. The audience experiences the eruption from the inside — flying above lava fountains, hiking across unstable terrain, and witnessing firsthand the impossible decisions faced by the people living in the volcano’s path.

Lava Junkies is currently seeking a broadcast, cable, or streaming home for the completed 8-episode docuseries. With unprecedented access, decades of archival material, and a visually spectacular real-world disaster at its core, the series offers a rare blend of cinematic storytelling, human drama, and extraordinary natural spectacle.
